Municipal Ecomuseum of Seixal, on its 42nd anniversary, joins, once again, the celebration of International Museum Day on May 18th, between 10 am and 8 pm, this year under a deep reflection of its role in society, especially linked to education and research, with the theme “Museums, Education and Research”.
«It has been 42 years of investigating, documenting and disseminating testimonies of the history of people and this territory. The Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum is fundamental to preserving our collective memory and for new generations to have knowledge of what was done in Seixal and what was the basis of economic development. Knowing the basis of this collective memory, they are better able to build the future», highlights the president of the Seixal City Council, Paulo Silva.
The ecomuseum’s program for International Museum Day 2024 and its 42nd anniversary aims to attract people of different ages and tastes and will feature the collaboration of several partners. Throughout the day, initiatives will take place at the Fábrica de Pólvora de Vale de Milhaços and exhibitions will be open at the Moinho de Maré de Corroios and Espaço Memória – Tipografia Popular do Seixal.
The initiative is in partnership with the Vita Nativa Association – Environmental Conservation, Cultivarte and DGArtes, within the scope of the partnership between the Seixal City Council and the musician Nuno Silva, from the Laboratory of Instrumentation, Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Physics, from the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, by Sofia Freire, instructor of shorinji kempo and tai chi chuan, as well as other municipal services.
