UX 300e is Lexus’ first 100% electric vehicle
The Lexus UX 300e is powered by a high capacity battery of 54.3 kilowatt hours with an electric range of 400 km in the NEDC cycle, which corresponds to more than 300 km in the WLTP cycle.
To ensure a low center of gravity, the 288-cell lithium-ion battery is located under the floor of the passenger compartment and the rear seat, providing the space and versatility expected from an urban crossover.
For greater control and increased battery life, several sensors monitor the voltage of each cell and each battery pack, as well as the temperature of the battery cells. This control, together with the UX 300e’s advanced Battery Management System, results in maximizing the useful capacity of each battery cell and an increase in electrical autonomy.
For the UX 300e, Lexus has developed an air cooling system for the battery cells that is safer and lighter than water cooling systems. With the cooled air circulating inside the battery, it is possible to obtain stable battery performance even at high speed and during fast and repeated charging.
Working hand in hand with the interior air conditioning, the system improves the car’s performance, battery life and battery performance during charging.
Reliability was also a priority in the development of the battery heating system. The heating elements, under each battery module, minimize the impact of low outdoor temperatures and the impact of cold on the electrical range, ensuring that maximum power is available right at startup.
Finally, for a long and trouble-free service life, the battery is equipped with rubber seals to protect it from water and dust.
