280 miniature bicycles invade the Meliá Madeira Mare
Until June 15th, to celebrate World Bicycle Day
In celebration of World Bicycle Day, which took place on June 3rd, the Hotel Meliá Madeira Mare, located in the city of Funchal, is hosting the exhibition of a private collection that includes around 280 miniature bicycles. The exhibition will be available until June 15th.
Open to the general public, over the next few days, bicycle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover an impressive variety of miniatures, collected by João Gomes Sanches and from various parts of the world. Currently, this private collection exceeds 350 units and compiles various models and materials, reflecting the collector’s incessant search for rare and unique pieces.
During his childhood, João Gomes Sanches used the bicycle as a means of transport to get to school and had the habit of following events dedicated to this sport, such as the “Volta ao Algarve”. However, this was never a great passion of his. It was then, during the countless trips he made for work, that he began to collect hundreds of miniature bicycles, and at this point, it is difficult to find parts that he does not own.
With a stunning view over the Atlantic Ocean, this exhibition will take place at the 5-star hotel of the Hoti Hoteis Meliá Madeira Mare Group, located ten minutes from the city centre of Funchal and the tourist area. It will have the support of the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, MADCycle, FreeRide, Decathlon and the Madeira Cycling Association.
