Between June and September, the tour operator will offer a weekly direct charter, departing from Lisbon, to the Dominican province.
The destination once again assumes an important role in Soltour’s offer to travel agencies, reinforcing their ability to respond to the consumption trends of Portuguese tourists.
Soltour will connect Portugal to La Romana, in the Dominican Republic, during the summer of 2024. The operation will feature a weekly direct flight, on Wednesdays, which will be in effect from June to September 2024, from Lisbon, with 550 seats.
This investment is part of Soltour’s value proposition in the chapter on sun and beach destinations, in which the operator leads at an Iberian level. Complementing its offer to other Caribbean destinations, the operation to La Romana ensures a diverse range of destinations available to travel agencies.
“The investment in La Romana strengthens our commitment to travel agencies, who are our essential partners. As specialists in the sun and beach segment, we continue to believe in the potential that this product has in the national market, being a Caribbean destination less known and explored by Portuguese tourists. It is an untouched destination, with a very high quality of offer and a very rich range of tourist resources, from nature and culture to sport, with emphasis on golf, whose enthusiasts will find a world-class course in La Romana: the PGA Oceans 4 of Bahia Principe group”, says Luís Santos, Commercial Director of Soltour in Spain and Portugal.
Relaxation and adventure in a tropical destination
A province famous for its tropical landscapes, La Romana stands out for its long white sand beaches bathed by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. In this destination, life by the sea is synonymous with relaxation, but also with sport and adventure. La Romana is a privileged place for practising sports such as golf, while the island of Saona, a natural reserve located a short boat trip away, invites you to activities such as diving and snorkelling.
Natural resources are, in fact, one of the main attractions of this destination, with a diverse geography that encompasses mountains, trails and exotic forests. The Las Maravillas Caves are a notable example of the natural and geographical richness of La Romana, also offering a journey through time through pre-Columbian cave paintings.
La Romana is also an ambassador of Dominican culture, from music and dance to architecture. In this chapter, Altos de Chavón is a mandatory stop: in this replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village, built by hand with coral stone, visitors can immerse themselves in the best of local culture.
And because culture is also served at the table, La Romana offers a wide variety of traditional Dominican dishes, such as “mangú” and “pescado con coco”, prepared with local ingredients. The famous Dominican rum can also be tasted in several places in La Romana, a province whose history is deeply linked to the sugar industry.
