Tom Jobim at Tivoli in the voice of António Zambujo

Tivoli hosted António Zambujo and the Portuguese Pop Orchestra of Hot Clube Portugal last night for an evening that recalled Tom Jobim, a full house experienced each theme celebrated by the Brazilian composer, in Zambujo’s voice.

Yesterday was the first of two nights, in which Zambujo, one of the greatest Portuguese voices of today, performed Jobim’s timeless hits, a known fan of Brazilian popular music, they even released a tribute album to Chico Buarque in 2016, accompanied on stage by the fantastic Portuguese Pop Orchestra of Hot Clube Portugal under the musical direction of Pedro Moreira.

Zambujo continues to enchant national and international audiences, with a path between fado and cante alentejano. Still, he is always travelling through other styles and partnering with some of the best voices, delighting his fans.

Tom Jobim, stage name of Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, was one of the greatest Brazilian composers, pianists, guitarists, and arrangers. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1927, he is considered one of the main responsible for the internationalization of bossa nova and its fusion with jazz.

Bossa nova, a musical movement that emerged in Brazil around 1950, was revolutionary for uniting elements of Brazilian popular music with more complex harmonies and influences from jazz. Tom Jobim, in partnership with Vinícius de Moraes, created some of the most beautiful songs of this genre, such as “Garota de Ipanema,” “Corcovado,” and “Desafinado.”

Tom Jobim’s legacy transcends the borders of Brazil; his smooth melodies and poetic lyrics have conquered the world and influenced generations of musicians. Bossa nova has become a symbol of Brazilian culture and a heritage of humanity.

“Garota de Ipanema”, “Corcovado”, “Desafinado”, “Águas de Março”, “Chega de Saudade” are unforgettable themes of Tom, some of which we could hear yesterday at Tivoli in the unmistakable voice of António Zambujo in arrangements by Nelson Riddle, used in the recordings of the Carioca composer.

A memorable concert that repeats today, September 24, again with a sold-out hall, at Teatro Tivoli BBVA at 9 PM.
