Maritimo eliminates Sporting from the Portuguese Cup
This Monday, Marítimo eliminated Sporting in the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup after a 2-0 victory in Funchal.
Rúben Amorim changed several parts of the usual starting eleven and saw Brazilian striker Rodrigo Pinho, on 68 minutes, beat Luís Maximiano for the first time to make it 1-0.
Pinho was once again in the spotlight, head-on assisting central defender Léo Andrade to sign the 2-0, confirming the first defeat of the lions in games of national competitions in 2020/21.
The Madeiran team is thus the first to stamp a place in the quarter-finals, now waiting for the winner of the tie between Rio Ave and Estoril to meet the next opponent.
