Sporting beats SC Braga and wins the League Cup
Sporting beat SC Braga (1-0) in the League Cup final. It is recalled that this was the first edition of the final four played at the Municipal Stadium of Leiria.
In a match marked by a lot of rain that fell before the game, and that left the pitch in poor condition, Pedro Porro (41’) ended up being the hero. The Spanish right-back escaped Galeno’s scoring to score the winning goal, at a time when Rúben Amorim and Carlos Carvalhal had already received an expulsion order due to a heated exchange of words at 33 ‘.
Pedro Gonçalves ended up also seeing the right red card at 90 + 6 ’, due to protests by Tiago Martins. The Leon midfielder protested a foul that resulted in a free kick from João Novais for a great defense by Adán.
With this result, Sporting won the third League Cup of the honors (2018, 2019, and 2021). Rúben Amorim added his second consecutive trophy after winning this competition at the helm of SC Braga last season.
