Cultural project ‘Aljubarrota 1385’ supported with 280 thousand euros

The municipalities of Alcobaça, Batalha and Porto de Mós will be the beneficiary territories of the cultural project that involves several institutional partners with the aim of, on the one hand, supporting the holding of events associated with heritage, culture and cultural goods, and also betting in the dissemination and territorial integration, through initiatives of territorial and institutional cooperation that allow the integration of cultural programming, guided tours and the dissemination of equipment, cultural goods and services provided.

As reference partners, in addition to the municipal promoters, the well-known SA Marionetas – Teatro & Bonecos group, from Alcobaça, appears as co-promoter of this cultural network, and the Batalha de Aljubarrota Foundation, as an institutional partner that develops a reference work in the valorization of the event “Batalha de Aljubarrota”.

This initiative, led by the Municipality of Alcobaça, implements a network action of the three municipalities and was a candidate for Notice No. CENTRO-14-2020-12, under the name “Cultural Network Programming” of the Operational Program of the Regional Operational Program of the Center, which consists of granting financial support to investments aimed at promoting the dynamism, promotion, and development of cultural heritage, as an instrument of differentiation and competitiveness of the territories, namely through their qualification and tourism enhancement.

In the words of Luís Mourão, a playwright from Leiria and a cultural coordinator of this project, “the extraordinary battle, which we call Real or Aljubarrota, endures and will endure, in the national imagination as an indelible mark of the will of a People to assert their right to sovereignty and complete independence in the framework of nations. No previous or later feat stands out in its immense dimension or in its social, economic and political consequences in the short and medium-term”, and which now knows a project that will dramatize and enhance in the cultural and tourist domains a unique event in the national context.

In the field of cultural programming, the original production of a playwright show on the theme “Batalha de Aljubarrota”, promoted in three acts in the three territories (Batalha, Porto de Mós and Alcobaça), and involving theater groups and cultural agents locations.

This initiative brings together several other cultural events and promotion actions aimed at boosting the historical and natural spaces of the municipalities involved, as well as contributing to the sustainability of culture in the period of recovery from the pandemic that determined the reduction of creative activities.

[dropcap]”[/dropcap]The cultural network “Aljubarrota 1385” is not a recreation of the Royal Battle. It is a spectacle about the Royal Battle and therein lies, without pretensions, its originality, its greatest ambition, and strength. It is also a way of sowing in this territory know-how that, ideally, will extend overtime and take root in theatrical practices, enriching them. “Aljubarrota 1385” proposes to bring together a group of qualified professionals who will work shoulder to shoulder with a group of Amateur Theater in each one of the three municipalities, sharing knowledge and organizing ways of doing things”, summarizes Luís Mourão on the approved cultural plan.

The project as a whole represents a ca, corresponding to an ERDF contribution of € 280,561.00, with the period for carrying out the actions scheduled between April 2021 and July 2022.

The project as a whole represents a total investment of € 299,961.00, corresponding to an ERDF contribution of € 280,561.00, with the actions scheduled to take place between April 2021 and July 2022.
