Come and visit Vila Nova da Barquinha, a Portuguese village belonging to the district of Santarém
Vila Nova da Barquinha is a municipality with a unique natural beauty. The pages of its history are written among legends and Templar mysteries, imaginable in the imposing setting of the Castle of Almourol, built in the waters of the river, a National Monument since 1910 and one of the 21 finalists in the election of the 7 Wonders in 2007. Fortaleza rebuilt by Gualdim Pais, master of the Order of the Templars, in 1171, it is one of the most representative examples of the military architecture of the early kingdom.
At Atalaia, one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture in Portugal can be seen, the Igreja Matriz, classified as a National Monument in 1926.
Here you can also visit the Contemporary Sculpture Park, with the best of contemporary Portuguese sculpture, from the 1960s to the present, with 11 large pieces of art by authors such as Joana Vasconcelos or Rui Chafes (Prémio Pessoa 2015).
