Joaquim Chaves Saúde Porto Pro Championship confirmed for May 7th to 9th

The MEO Surf League, the main surfing competition in Portugal and the one that awards the titles of national champions in the sport, has one more stage confirmed for the calendar of the 2021 season. In the preview phase of the 2nd stage in Figueira da Foz, the best national surfers now know that they will compete at Joaquim Chaves Saúde Porto Pro, which takes place from the 7th to the 9th of May, in Porto and in Matosinhos.

Joaquim Chaves Saúde Porto Pro will be the third of five stops in the Liga MEO Surf and remains on the calendar for the 16th consecutive year, reinforcing the status of the stage that has been disputed for the longest time in a row. In addition to being a central stage in the fight for the titles, the northern competition takes place in the same month that the National Team will compete in the last places for the Tokyo Olympic Games, at the ISA World Cup in El Salvador. In this way, the northern waves will serve as a preparation for the Portuguese Olympic aspirations.

The Liga MEO Surf is the 1st division of the modality, being Surf an individual sport in the open air without physical contact and considered of low risk by DGS.

Regarding the other stages, the National Surfers Association continues to work with the respective Municipalities with a view to confirming more dates, taking into account the licensing and sanitary conditions, as well as the evolution of the relevant international calendar, in order to make the sports agenda of the players compatible. best national surfers in the best possible way.

In terms of side trophies, the Liga MEO Surf has the fight for the best maneuver in the Go Chill Expression Session awarded with € 2,500 annually and the Bom Petisco Girls Score, a first prize exclusively dedicated to women, with € 2,500 annually for the best score combined in the women’s competition framework. Joaquim Chaves Best Wave now joins again with an award of € 2,000 per year in the remaining stages.
