Museum of Fashion and Textiles opens today at WOW in Gaia

The museum is a tribute to the art of doing well in the areas of fashion, footwear and filigree, and reinforces the importance of the textile industry in the north of the country and sews the lines of the main national designers.

The Museum of Fashion and Textiles is the sixth museum of WOW, the cultural quarter of Gaia, and it opens today to the public. To reinforce the importance of the textile industry in the north of Portugal and to tell the story of designer fashion in our country, the organization of the museum had the precious help of several entities, companies and national designers.

On the first floor, it is possible to know or recall the most relevant chronological moments in the history of the Portuguese textile industry, from the 16th century to the present. The important assets of Riopele, Tintex and Têxteis Manuel Gonçalves contribute to this time travel. The visitor can learn more, through a series of shop windows, about the processes of spinning, drawing, weaving, dyeing, etc. Also on this floor, there is space for the exhibition of a short film about the textile industry.

The second floor is the stage for filigree, women’s and men’s footwear, with Luís Onofre and Carlos Santos and in the fashion of a national author. Models of pioneers such as Eduarda Abbondanza and Mário Matos Ribeiro, Ana Salazar, José António Tenente, João Tomé and Francisco Pontes or Manuela Gonçalves can be seen, to the consecrated Miguel Vieira, Luís Buchinho, Nuno Baltazar, Fátima Lopes, Maria Gambina, Filipe Faísca , Luís Carvalho, Anabela Baldaque, Diogo Miranda, Hugo Costa, Alexandra Moura, Ricardo Preto and Carlos Gil, among many others. The talent show also welcomes emerging designers discovered through the Bloom platforms of Portugal Fashion and Sangue Novo da Moda Lisboa.

Tickets cost 15 euros and can be purchased at wow.pt. The museum opens daily, from 12 pm to 8 pm a week and from 10 am to 8 pm at the weekend. On the upper floor, with a terrace overlooking the Douro River, you can also discover another WOW restaurant. It is called Mira Mira and is open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for dinner, from 7 pm to 10:30 pm. It serves haute cuisine, with a meticulous and very chromatic presentation. It also has a menu of signature cocktails, low in alcohol.
