Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar exposes winning project of the Prize of Curatorship
The exhibition “I often set a meeting with myself at the ground zero“, the proposal of Marta Rema, winner of the third edition of the Atelier Júlio Pomar Museum Curatorial Prize 2018-19, will be inaugurated on January 31, in that space, in Lisbon.
The collective exhibition, curated by Marta Rema, is inaugurated on that day at 6:00 p.m., and will remain open until April 14, according to a statement from the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, which is being released today.
“Often I meet with myself at the zero points” brings together works that address the desire to think silence in its multiple dimensions: body, artistic, visual, temporal, political, real and imaginary.
The project, as a result of the curatorial prize awarded by this institution and by the Company for the Management of Equipment and Cultural Animation of Lisbon (EGEAC), has as its jury the director of the Atelier-Museum Júlio Pomar, Sara António Matos, independent curator Luiza Teixeira de Freitas, and the deputy director of the National Museum – Rainha Sofia Art Center, in Madrid, João Fernandes.
The collection includes works by artists Ana Pérez-Quiroga, Ana Pissarra, Cecília Costa, Fernando Calhau, Helena Almeida, João Pedro Vale & Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, João Maria de Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, Jorge Molder, Josefa d’Óbidos, Luísa Cunha , Paulo Lisboa, Pedro Vaz, Raul Domingues, Ricardo Jacinto, Rui Chafes, Sandro Resende, Sara & André.
It also includes works by Júlio Pomar himself (1926 — 2018), which shows the drawings of the prison, held in the Fort of Caxias, where the artist was imprisoned during the dictatorship from April 27 to August 26, 1947.
This curatorial project “seeks to reflect on the form and place of silence in the world, considering that it has become increasingly noisy,” in the description of the Atelier-Museum.
The title of the exhibition borrows a phrase from Júlio Pomar, taken from a chapter of his book “Da Cegueira dos Pintores”, titled “Treading the same path“.
Born in Torres Novas in 1976, Marta Rema holds a degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon and a post-graduate degree in curatorial studies from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the same institution.
The curator is the winner of the third edition of the award, succeeding the projects of Maria do Mar Fazenda (2015) and Hugo Dinis (2016). His training includes seminars on contemporary art, curation and communication.
She was a producer and responsible for communication in the Artery – Humanizing Architecture, Arts and Engineering, Pleasant Machine and AADK Portugal associations. She also coordinated the production and production of two films by Susana Nobre (2014) in Terratreme Filmes.
He assumed the direction of communication and coordination of the educational project of the first two editions of the performing arts festival Miscellaneous Materials (2009-10).
French translator since 1998, has inventoried and catalogued the collection of documents and bibliography of the estate of Agostinho da Silva (1997).
Since December 2010, he has written and published about the work of artists such as Sandro Resende, Sara Lamúrias, Rui Pedro Jorge and the painter Urbano, wrote for V-Ludo magazine and the newspaper Torrejano.
Among the projects in which he participated or promoted are three exhibitions of Portuguese designers in “Round the Corner” (2012), “Drifting / Em Deriva” by António Pedro Lopes and Gustavo Ciríaco (Business 2012), with Sofia Borges, video-performance “Bardo” (Demimonde 2012), “Jacarandá”, with Jonas Lopes (Teatro do Bairro, 2013), and, solo, “Arlequina” (Demimonde, 2013).
He published the play “Like a Room without a Roof” in the Collection of Texts of Theater, of the National D. Maria II, which was presented during the “Encountered Readings” festival in 2016.
