In the week before the highly anticipated Oscars ceremony, the Hollywood Channel pays homage to the most important event in the world of the seventh art with the screening of seven Oscar-winning films by the Academy.
To see over seven days, starting March 6 at 9:30 pm with “Joker”, followed by “Sisters Meeting”, “The Favourite”, “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)”, “ Titanic”, “The Revenant” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
The cinematographic hit “Joker”, directed by Todd Phillips and deserving of the Golden Lion at the 76th edition of the Venice Film Festival, is the dramatic “thriller” about loneliness that opens this special on March 6th at 9:30 pm.
Bringing the iconic DC Comics villain Joker to life is Joaquin Phoenix, winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as comedian Arthur Fleck. Embittered and emotionally unbalanced, he is forced to attend periodic meetings for psychological evaluation. One day, after being fired, he is savagely attacked. That’s how from his tormented mind, emerges the ruthless psychopath who will be known by the name of Joker.
The following day, March 7, at 9:30 pm, the Hollywood channel will show “Brothers Meeting”, the story of two unknown brothers starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in a film that won four Oscars in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman) and Best Original Screenplay, having also received four more nominations: Best Cinematography, Editing, Soundtrack, and Artistic Direction.
Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) finds out at his father’s funeral that not only has he been disinherited, but he also has an older brother, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman), who is autistic and is in an institution for the mentally disabled. The relationship between the two will intensify when they are forced to take a long car trip full of unforeseen events, which ends up transforming the insensitive Charlie into a completely new man.
“A Favorita” is the film that follows, to be seen on March 8, at 21:30. After ten nominations and winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for Olivia Colman, “The Favourite” was voted Best European Film of 2019.
In the early 18th century, the close relationship between Queen Anne and Sarah Churchill is threatened by the arrival of Sarah’s cousin, Abigail Hill, resulting in a bitter rivalry between the two cousins to become the Queen’s favorite. It is a period film that received excellent reviews and was distinguished at the Venice Film Festival.
On March 9, at 9:30 pm, the Hollywood channel airs “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)”, a black comedy by Mexican Alejandro González Iñárritu (“Dog Love”, “21 Grams”, “Babel”), awarded by several circles of American film critics, which won four statuettes, including Best Film and Best Director.
“Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)”, has the particularity of resorting to the long shot to give the illusion of a continuous movement of the camera to tell the story of an actor who became popular by playing an iconic superhero who now plans to put on a play in an attempt to recover his glory days.
The cinematic success “Titanic” arrives on the Hollywood channel on March 10, at 9:30 pm, to remember the story of the sinking of the Titanic that earned James Cameron the Oscars for Best Film and Best Director. In all, “Titanic” collected 11 golden statuettes, equaling the record of the film “Ben Hur”, until then the most awarded ever by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
It is the first trip of the largest and safest transatlantic in the world and among the passengers is Rose De Witt Bukater (Kate Winslet), a young ruined aristocrat who travels with her fiancé and his mother. Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a talented and poor painter, wins his ticket in a “poker” game and boards at the last minute.
The atmosphere is festive, but Rose doesn’t love her fiancé and her mother is pressuring her to get married. Desperate, the young woman tries to commit suicide but is stopped by Jack. Gradually, the two live a great love, while the Titanic sails towards its tragic destiny.
“The Revenant: O Reborn” is the film that follows March 11, at 9:30 pm, to tell the story of an expedition through the interior of American territory in which explorer Hugh Glass is attacked by a bear, starting a desperate fight to stay alive.

The special ends on a high note on March 12, at 9:30 pm, with the screening of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a celebration of the music of Queen and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes, becoming one of the most beloved artists of the world.
