Wrestling matches return to Parque Mayer

Parque Mayer is on the stage for Wrestlefest on July 8 at 9 pm. Admission is free.

After more than 70 years, the wrestling event returns to the place where notable figures performed and has the presence of several current fighters. This is a project of the Parish of Santo António with the support of EGEAC and APW (Portuguese Wrestling Association).

“Lisbon Wrestlefest’s main objective is to make national wrestling known to new audiences (…) Through the event, we intend to attract young people and adults interested in watching the show at a national level and, who knows, trying it out.” – says Nelson Pereira, one of the fighters and organizers of the event.

After the times of American wrestling, there is a new generation of fighters influenced by the popularity of wrestling in the early 2000s, and who are now dedicated to this art.

“This project serves to honor the legends of the past, but also to value the fighters of the present. This to (…) prove that Wrestling is a performing art form like any other, that it is alive and its history deserves to be known.” – refers João Santos, one of the Portuguese fighters with more international visibility and a member of the organization of the event.

The Wrestlefest Program consists of 6 matches, the first between João Santos (GoldenBoy) and Pégaso; the second between Cláudia Bradstone and Laura di Matteo, and then a team fight between Luís Mira and Luís Mestre (MayheM) against Michael and Stefan Stu (Veri Stu). In the second part and after the break, the fourth fight will be between Baltazar and João Milan, the fifth again between teams, between Damião and Paulo “Knockout” Cruz against Nelson Pereira and Ricky Boy and, finally, the fight will be for the belt of Lisbon, between Rafael Pedras and Léo Rossi. The event ends with a celebration with all fighters in the ring.

This is one of the first performances of this performing art to return to Parque Mayer, 70 years after the time when wrestling events brought crowds to the venue.
