‘Correntes d’Escritas’ digital starts today
The meeting, which annually brings together writers of Iberian expression in that city in the district of Porto, takes place between today and Saturday, with a more concentrated program, but in which 154 guests participate, who will star in various initiatives in honor of Luís Sepúlveda, who died in April last year, victim of covid-19, a few months after participating in Correntes d’Escritas.
Also, the literary magazine of the event, which completes 20 issues, will be entirely dedicated to the writer, addressing his professional and personal spectrum, and the conversation tables will start from his work, according to information from the local authority, which he organizes.
The festival is scheduled to start at 11:00 am, with the opening ceremony in charge of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca, and the Mayor of Póvoa de Varzim, Aires Pereira.
The inaugural conference will be given by Argentine-born writer Alberto Manguel and former director of the National Library of that South American country, currently residing in Portugal, who will share some of his experiences.
Also participating in this meeting are authors such as Afonso Cruz, Alex Gozblau, Álvaro Laborinho Lúcio, Catarina Sobral, Gonçalo M. Tavares, Hélia Correia, Josep Maria Espirol, Juan Gabriel Vasquez, Lídia Jorge, Manuel Rui, Ondjaki, Onésimo Teotónio Almeida, Pepetela, Rui Zink, Simone Paulino, Valter Hugo Mãe, Maria Flor Pedroso, João Gobern and Carlos Vaz Marques.
This year, Correntes d’Escritas includes other art forms, such as a documentary by João Cayatte and an exhibition of photographs by Daniel Mordzinski, centered on friendship and common projects with Luís Sepúlveda.
There are also activities for reading poetry and short stories, and a project called “As Penélopes”, which will involve 12 writers and 12 embroiderers from the traditional poveira sweater, working in complementarity, in the production of texts and shirts.
