Ela Jaguar releases “BMF,” the third single anticipating their debut album

The new track features collaborations and explores the hip-hop facet of the band

Ela Jaguar releases today “BMF” (Bad Mother Fucker), the third single leading up to the release of their self-titled debut album, set for November. After the singles “17” and “Times 60“, the band surprises again, this time with a track that explores hip-hop and R’n’B textures, reinforcing the sonic versatility of the project.

BMF” starts with an introduction marked by tropical and insinuating percussion, a dry and engaging drumbeat, a propulsive bass line, accompanied by Rhodes chords, dancing guitar, and scratch elements. This solid and textured base serves as a backdrop for the free flow of NOMI (Tiago Cardoso), who describes his participation in the theme as a fluid and spontaneous process, having created the lyrics in a single recording session.

The band, which has been betting on an independent and self-sustaining approach, sees “BMF” as a natural continuation of their journey. The track reflects a classic hip-hop aesthetic, inspired by the 90s while maintaining the rich and multifaceted sonic identity of Ela Jaguar. The theme revolves around personal transformation and the strength needed to overcome obstacles, with NOMI turning a personal experience of bullying into a powerful catharsis, as evidenced in the final verse: “Maybe I’mma bruise them, lookin’ what you do g / Maybe all the time you had, can’t make a fool of me.”

Rómulo Pereira’s guitar solo, originally played at a band concert and captured live, was retained for the studio version, standing out for its fiery and improvised energy, adding an emotional layer to the theme. The keyboard arrangement was also preserved from the live performance, with contributions from Cláudia Correia, who worked with the band during the preparation for their EP launch concert at VUL in 2023.

BMF” is already available on all digital platforms and, with this new release, Ela Jaguar consolidates their artistic evolution, laying the groundwork for the anticipated debut album, which promises an elegant fusion of genres such as hip-hop, indie, soul, and world music.

Ela Jaguar – Biography

This new musical project emerged in late summer 2019, after epic days spent at the Vodafone Paredes de Coura Festival.

Although they previously composed mainly in song format – music accompanied by voice and lyrics (in bands like For Pete Sake, Pedra Mestre, and LOT), Ela Jaguar’s leader, Pedro Sacchetti (vocals and guitar), and Nuno Henriques (bass), started by creating the band’s first compositions exclusively as instrumentals, following a “Do It Yourself” working idea, meaning recording everything themselves in their studio.

Filipe Ferreira (drums) joined the project soon after, and with João Fonseca and Henrique Ubach on percussion, Ela Jaguar recorded the songs that would see the light of day with the first single “Flores,” in February 2023. The EP “Ela Jaguar Vol.1” was released the following month, on March 24.

Ela Jaguar aims to create an independent and self-sustaining structure for the production of their music. The EP “Ela Jaguar Vol.1” was entirely produced and recorded in the band’s rehearsal space, where between periods of vacation, parental leave, and countless weekends, the final takes were achieved. The tracks were mixed by Gonçalo Moniz, and the artwork for the EP was created by Sofia Rocha and Mafalda Casais – Gato Safo Design.

Focusing their attention on production details with each new track created, Ela Jaguar plans to release their self-titled debut album “Ela Jaguar” in November, featuring instrumental themes and songs that elegantly cross genres such as R&B, Indie, Soul, Hip-Hop, and World Music.

It is worth noting that the band first presented themselves to the public last year at VUL (Village Underground Lisbon), in front of an audience of over 200 people, with a concert lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes, featuring guests, where the 5 songs from the EP were showcased, along with many new songs that will emerge refined and with new arrangements in their first album. Then, in the fall, they embarked on a mini-tour that included dates at various Fnac auditoriums and the PDF Festival.
