Esteves sem Metafísica presents their debut album de.bu.te. live.

September 27th at Casa Capitão

After releasing their first album, de.bu.te., on June 20th, Esteves sem Metafísica—the musical project of writer and poet Teresa Esteves da Fonseca—now presents it live on September 27th at Casa Capitão in Lisbon.

The show, in a band and choir format, will feature Branca in the opening section. Doors open at 8:30 pm.

de.bu.te. is the culmination of five years of composition, experimentation, and artistic maturation, and presents itself as an inaugural gesture, intimate and uncompromising, in which words, emotions, and freedom intersect in a unique sonic language.

Produced by Sebastião Macedo (Príncipe), the album is the result of a deeply intuitive collaboration between artist and producer. “The choice of Sebastião was clear from the start—I was a fan of his music. He understood my language, enhanced it, and took it to places I hadn’t imagined,” shares Teresa. Throughout the album, the production reveals itself as a natural extension of the writing, opening up textural, dynamic, and emotionally engaging atmospheres.

Musically, the work inhabits the territory of indie pop and alternative pop, but avoids easy categories. Influences range from the Beatles to Andrew Lloyd Webber, including Isaac Albéniz, Samuel Úria, Bach, fado, and traditional Portuguese songbooks. It’s a profoundly eclectic and intentional record, where slow listening and the search for the essential prevail over any fleeting aesthetic.

The lyrical component takes centre stage. Inheriting her literary training and her career in poetry (she is the author of the book “A morte não tem pátria” (Death Has No Fatherland), 2023), Teresa Esteves da Fonseca constructs a poetic body on this album that encompasses her experiences as a woman, a spiritual being, and a body in transformation. “I speak of desire and promise, of addiction and glory, of soul and flesh. I always try to write truthfully—even if it means stripping myself of shame or self-prejudice.”

The album was preceded by the single “sóbria,” released on May 22nd, described as “a hymn to reckless youth” and the starting point of the artist’s musical journey. With simple verses and an ethereal atmosphere, “sóbria” proved to be the most accessible track on the album—and, simultaneously, her first creative impulse.

de.bu.te. doesn’t rush or over-explain. It’s a proposal that builds through attentive listening, where each track reveals itself as a fragment of an artistic identity in the process of affirmation. A confident, lyrical, and visceral first step from a voice that’s here to stay.

The album is supported by the GDA Foundation and is now available on all digital platforms.
