Guimarães Spring Festival highlights sustainability
On the 23rd and 24th of March, on Rua de Vila Flor
“Bairro C: Zero Carbon Commitment” will be the theme of the event, which will feature concerts, markets and many other activities.
Spring is coming and the Landscape Laboratory and the municipality of Guimarães are preparing once again to mark the arrival of the most flowery season of the year. On the 23rd and 24th of March, Guimarães hosts another edition of the Spring Festival, which this year will take place on Rua de Vila Flor, in the heart of the Couros area. “Bairro C: Zero Carbon Commitment”, a pilot project approved by NetZeroCities, within the scope of the Mission Cities, will be the theme of the festivity, which puts sustainability in great prominence.
Bairro C is a test tube for a series of measures aimed at the municipality of Guimarães‘ commitment to carbon neutrality, which consists of an integrated approach to emissions from energy, mobility, waste and land use. The objective is to promote behavioural change, social and cultural innovation, new policies and regulations, green technology, a sustainable economy and new business models.
Throughout the weekend, the program will also feature markets, music, dance, workshops, lectures, a picnic area, exhibitions and many other activities for the whole family. Two emerging names in Portuguese music will take place on the big stage of the Spring Festival: Vimaranenses Vera Lima and Maria João Soares, runner-up in The Voice Portugal 2023. In the same place, there will be lectures on solutions for green balconies and moments of dance.
For the youngest, there will also be plenty of reasons for fun, with the concert “Palhacinho Jonas – História to music with Catarina Pereira”, traditional games, a treasure hunt, Educabicla or a giant carpet game. Creativity will also be stimulated with postcard illustration, eco print, clay activities, learning sessions about the tannery industry, soap creation workshops and construction of bat shelters, among many others.
The Spring Festival will also feature Kokedamas workshops and the construction of a pond in the Miyawaki Forest, artistic installations, photographic and drawing exhibitions, an interpretative route to Bairro C, a visit to the trees in the Vila Flor gardens, a Bioblitz and an artistic performance by Guimagym.
