The protocol for its accomplishment was signed between the Chamber of Figueira da Foz, Pro Beach Soccer S.L and Cofina, at the end of the morning, in the Paços do Concelho, in what was the last act of João Ataíde as president of that municipality.
“It is a project that has been incubated in the past two years, in a process of perceiving the skills of the city of Figueira da Foz and its beach and all the involvement that will provide a great moment of sport,” said the former judge, who later of 10 years to lead the municipality takes possession today as Secretary of State for the Environment.
At the ceremony, João Ataíde pointed out that beach soccer is an “expanding and affirming” modality and recalled that Figueira da Foz was one of the “first cities to host the Mundialito“, reason why there was “almost a desire of the population so that this event was repeated “.
“We expect this event to be a great party for our city, a moment of consecration of the modality in the beach sports, in which Portugal is enshrined,” he stressed.
According to the document, the final phase of the 2019 and 2020 European Beach Soccer Championship will count on the participation of 16 men’s teams, eight belonging to the European League’s A Division and the remaining eight coming from Division B.
The competition will be played in four days, preceded by an official training day.
The municipality of Figueira da Foz shares the event with 130 thousand euros per edition, besides guaranteeing the logistical and licensing aspects, while Cofina supports with 100 thousand euros per year and transmits the games in an exclusive regime in CMTV.
