The 21st edition of the French Cinema Festival will tour four Portuguese cities to showcase some of the most interesting French film production today and continue to punctuate the memory of its great figures.
Lisbon (8th to 21st of October), Porto (29th to 4th of November), Coimbra (21st to 24th of October) and Almada (14th to 18th of October) will be the physical points of an edition that also adapts to contemporary times with parallel programming in VoD that extends the scope of the festival to all parts of the country.
The program includes more than 50 films, 16 previews, a tribute to Delphine Seyrig, workshops and masterclasses, trips through French cinema and school sessions.
This year’s highlight will be the work of the actress, director, and activist Delphine Seyrig, in co-programming with the Cinemateca Portuguesa. In addition to the in-room programming, the 21st edition of the French Film Festival will feature an online extension, showing some of the films selected on the VoD platform.
A cinematographic icon for more than 40 years, Delphine Seyrig won the public’s and specialist’s criticism for the cerebral form with which he attacked his performances on stage and on the screen, his indisputable defense of women’s rights and his bold collaborations with independent filmmakers in productions that today are placed on the level of classics.
The scenario is more than known: France in the 1960s, the height of cinematic effervescence. Behind the cameras, names like Jean Luc-Godard, François Truffaut and Alain Resnais revolutionized the way the contemporary cinema narrative was built, in front of the names like Anna Karina and Delphine Seyrig assumed themselves as the muses of a nouvelle vague.
The retrospective dedicated to the French Cinema Festival, in partnership with the Cinemateca Portuguesa, covers the essential course of her career as an actress and filmmaker, including the film made with Carole Roussopoulos and Ioana Wieder, Les trois portugaises, about Isabel Maria, Maria Teresa Horta and Maria Velho da Costa.
The full schedule as well as details on tickets and festival schedules will be announced in the coming weeks. Find out more on the festival website.
