In the unprecedented show “Gisela Canta Abril”, Gisela João joins the Spanish guitarist Carles Rodenas Martinez and Luís “Twins” Pereira, an idea that emerged between Valencia and Lisbon.
Together, they celebrate the songs of April’s authors and composers, celebrating 50 years of Portuguese democracy. This collaboration brings a new dimension to the celebration of music and freedom, crossing the rich musical traditions between Portugal and Spain.
With its premiere scheduled for the 24th and 25th of April, at the Cineteatro de Amarante and at the Sons de Liberdade festival, at the Tivoli BBVA Theater, in Lisbon, respectively, “Gisela Canta Abril” will then tour some of the most emblematic venues in the country, singing the freedom through music. The repertoire focuses on the themes that marked the revolution, transformed and revived on a stage where tradition and contemporaneity meet, affirming this living, democratic Portugal, where cultural miscellanies coexist in harmony. The invitation to guitarist Carles Rodenas Martinez adds a broader look to the dictatorship-revolution-democracy period experienced in both Portugal and Spain.
“Gisela Canta Abril” celebrates not only revolution and democracy through music; it is something bigger, where light, colour and images come together to involve the public in a complete experience, following the aesthetic path that the artist has followed. In these 50 years of April, Fado has also transformed, and Gisela João stands out as one of the most distinct voices in contemporary fado, being recognized both for her intensity and her positivity.
