IBÉRIA opens on May 31st

Peripécia Theater celebrates 20 years with a journey through the past

With an eye on the future, Companhia de Vila Real reflects on its journey by “rewriting” the debut show and comic book.

Two decades of production, creation and intervention. Peripécia Teatro is celebrating, in May, 20 years of artistic activity, with comedy as its guiding principle and the desire to reach different audiences as its mission. As a celebration, the Company revisits, inviting the public to join this journey, Iberia – The Crazy History of a Peninsula, a creation that marks the starting point of the path it has been following. Dressed in a new “guise”, the show IBÉRIA can be seen at the Municipal Theater of Vila Real, on May 31st and June 1st, at 9:30 pm.

Created and interpreted by Noelia Domínguez, Sérgio Agostinho and Ángel Fragua, and directed by José Carlos Garcia, IBÉRIA portrays the episodes that connect Portugal and Spain, over more than a thousand years of history. Armed with irony and a propensity for the absurd that are already characteristic of its record, Peripécia Teatro aims to promote a humorous and critical reflection on History and the collective imagination of the peninsular peoples. After its premiere in 2004, and after 13 years on stage – having toured Portugal, Spain and Brazil –, the show now has a consolidated version, the result of the experience of the performers, and with a reformulated visual appearance. Bruno Mazeda’s sound design work and live music are also new.

20 years of history in “comic strips”

Throughout the month of May, Peripécia Teatro is committed to programming aimed at celebrating this milestone. In addition to presenting the IBÉRIA show, the Company is preparing the launch of a commemorative comic book. A preview of this special edition, signed by Zetavares and Sara Figueiredo Costa, will be presented to the public by the authors in a session of “Lua Cheia, Arte na Aldeia” – a cycle that, for precisely a decade, has proposed a diverse cultural program every night of full moon in the space of Peripécia, in Benagouro.

The May 24th edition of the initiative is, therefore, dedicated to the Company’s 20th anniversary, showcasing the first panels of this project, which seeks to reflect, through a format situated between the comic strip and the logbook, on the journey of Peripécia Theatre. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by the instrumental quartet The Panic Party, which, on a journey through different musical genres, recreates the sound of Portuguese groups from the 1960s and American surf bands from the same era.

Tickets for performances of the IBÉRIA show can now be purchased through Ticketline, for the cost of five euros (with a discount for Vila Real Municipal Theater cardholders). Entry to “Lua Cheia, Arte na Aldeia” on May 24th is free, limited to the capacity of the room.

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
