Maria Matos Theater from May 9th to July 7th
“CASA PORTUGUESA”, by Pedro Penim, will be on stage at the Maria Matos Theater starting tomorrow.
The show — which sold out all the performances of the first season, in 2022 — is part of the *Ciclo D. Maria Matos, a partnership between the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and the Teatro Maria Matos.
“CASA PORTUGUESA” tells the (fictional) story of a former soldier of the Colonial War who, talking to his ghosts, finds himself confronted with the decadence and transformation of the ideals of home, family, country and the canon of the figure paternal. A portrait of what was, what is and what could be (or not be) the patriarchal family cell par excellence, the house, with the recent events of our democracy as a backdrop and revisiting the most painful of the open wounds of our history.

*One city, Lisbon. Two theatres, Maria. D. Maria Matos is a partnership between the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and Teatro Maria Matos that aims to extend the life of the shows. Thus, after their debut at Rossio, some of the Teatro Nacional’s productions head to Alvalade. The result is an extension of the time on stage for the shows, offering the public an increased opportunity to watch them. Cooperation between two spaces in favour of those who watch and those who make theatre.
