The Samba Poet will give concerts in Lisbon (March 9), Porto (11), and Braga (19) and promises to play great hits from his 47-year career.
Not every songwriter can say they’ve played on Mars. Jorge Aragon can. One of the biggest names in samba, the Brazilian who helped the robot Sojourner wake up on the red planet with his song “Coisinha do pai”, arrives in Portugal for concerts at the Capitólio, in Lisbon (March 9), at the Hard Club, at the Porto (March 11), and at the Altice Forum, in Braga (March 19).
“I was less than I would have liked in Portugal. I have excellent friends, but I owe more visits”, said Jorge Aragão who, about to turn 74 (he has a birthday on March 1, along with the city of Rio de Janeiro), wants to seize the moment:
“I am very happy with this special moment in my career being cared for and managed by my daughters and having Heavenly Father bless me so I can enjoy this new stage with lots of good energy. Portugal could not be left out of this tour. I will play my old sambas with the intense exchange of verses. Taking samba to those who like it”, said the Samba Poet.
Jorge Aragão has been a fundamental part of the history of samba over the last 50 years. In 1975, he founded Fundo de Quintal, one of the largest groups of its kind in Brazil. In 1981, he embarked on a solo career and the successes did not stop: “Malandro” (eternalized in the voice of Elza Soares), “Papel de Pão”, “Eu e Você Semper”, “Vou festar”, “Enredo do Meu Samba”, “Coisa de Pele”, “Do Fundo do Nosso Quintal” and “Já É”, among others.
The Samba Poet, who has already been recorded by icons such as Martinho da Vila, Elza Soares, Zeca Pagodinho, Alcione, Beth Carvalho, Ivan Lins, Baby do Brasil, and younger artists such as Anitta and Paula Mel, among others, come on tour with your full band and want to delve deeper into Portuguese music:
“May Portuguese artists allow me to show a little bit of my art and that I can learn more from them too”.
