It is the longest and most anticipated night of the Algarve summer. At 8.10 pm on the 26th of August, Saturday, the Algarve White Night begins, which takes place every two years in the city of Loulé to mark, in a symbolic and festive way, the end of the summer season in the region.
Glamour, elegance, relaxation, celebration, joy, conviviality, exuberance, harmony: all this and much more together in a single event that takes thousands of people to the heart of Loulé to enjoy a surprising cultural and artistic entertainment program.
There will be lots of good music, especially the most chill-out sounds to match the environment, but also street arts, sports activities, performances, dancing, and constant interaction with the public by the entertainers. The surprise factor is therefore one of the ingredients of the party, as the program is only announced on the day itself.
The Municipality of Loulé wants to provide the visitor with a full urban experience and, therefore, the streets are transformed into an immense living room, with puffs and tables installed in areas where cars circulate on a daily basis so that the visitor can also have spaces for rest and stay. But the vast majority of the public will certainly prefer to explore all the entertainment centers and stages installed in this urban perimeter of 125,000 m2 that extends from Largo de S. Francisco to the second sign on Avenida José da Costa Mealha, from the Castle wall to the Monument Engineer Duarte Pacheco.
Commerce also plays a fundamental role in the spirit of this event and the stores will have their doors open late into the night in a “white night”, with attractive decor and prices.
In addition to local restaurants, bars will be on the street, with different proposals, cocktails created for the occasion, and other drinks to toast with friends.
Finally, the decoration, which, of course, will be completely… white! The colored clothes next to the Municipal Market, a hallmark of the MED Festival, will be replaced by white clothes. A color that will also be a dress code, contrasting with the tan of many holidaymakers who have chosen the Algarve as their holiday destination and who say goodbye in Loulé to what were certainly happy days.
Entrance to the White Night is free.
Inspired by the White Nights that take place in some European capitals, especially Paris, this event has been held in Loulé for 16 years. In Portugal, it was a pioneering event and its notoriety led to the model being replicated at the national level.
The last Note Branca Algarve took place in 2019, so this return is highly anticipated.
