Portuguese company integrates restoration of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

The team of technicians that the atelier was involved in the rehabilitation of the Torre del Tesouro of the Cathedral of Santiago, concluded last week.

The work on the cathedral, located in Praça do Obradoiro, started in 2013, is expected to be completed by the end of 2020, in an investment of 18 million euros, financed by the foundation and the Spanish government.

Built between 1075 and 1128, in Romanesque style, the cathedral has undergone several renovations that added Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements.

It houses the tomb of the apostle Santiago Maior, patron and holy protector of Spain, which made it the main destination for Christian pilgrimage in Europe after Rome, through the so-called Camino de Santiago, a route that extended throughout the Iberian Peninsula and Western Europe.

The Jacobeu year is defined by the fact that the day of S. Tiago (Santiago) is a Sunday. The next will take place on July 25, 2021.

The Caminhos de Santiago, which cross Portugal from south to north, have been followed by pilgrims for centuries and have as their destination the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.
