The Douro International Engraving Biennial opens today the celebration of its 10th edition
Between August and October, this event spans ten locations in the North. There are 1,300 works by 625 artists from 64 countries.
In the 2020 edition, the event kicks off with an exhibition in honor of Silvestre Pestana, poet, artist and performer, at the Côa Museum, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, in the year that this museum unit also celebrates 10 years. Silvestre Pestana was born in 1949 in Funchal, Madeira, and has created, since the late 1960s, a unique work through a wide range of disciplines.
Until October 31, the biennial includes 16 exhibitions, conferences and workshops, with the participation of 625 artists, from 64 countries, and with the exhibition of 1,300 works in 10 locations in the North of Portugal.
The Douro International Engraving Biennial started 20 years ago and every two years it publishes the printmaking works of several national and international artists throughout the North region, especially in the Douro. The 10th biennial will be in Vila Real, Vila Nova de Gaia, Vila Nova de Foz Côa, Alijó, Bragança, Celeirós, Chaves, Favaios, Peso da Régua and São Martinho de Anta.
The organization guarantees that the characteristics of the event will be adapted in order to fully comply with the DGS rules and all applicable recommendations.
