UFC Moitense receives Sports Merit Medal

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Correia, visited, yesterday, January 10th, the facilities of União Futebol Clube Moitense, where he presented the Sports Merit Medal to the club.

During the visit, as part of the Youth and Sports Route – Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region program, João Paulo Correia said that “clubs such as União Futebol Clube Moitense, which represent more than 90 percent of national sports clubs, drive the sport, which promote sport and which make the connection between young people and children in the localities and the sports movement.” The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports praised the club that recently celebrated 100 years, highlighting the work that has been done in favor of sport. “União Futebol Clube Moitense celebrates 100 years, 100 years at the service of sport, at the service of Moita, at the service of the young community. And what the government is here to do is recognize exactly that, these 100 years of history at the service of Portuguese sport, by awarding the Sports Merit Medal”.

The mayor of Moita, Carlos Albino, was also associated with this special moment for the Moita football club. “This is recognition of the work that Moitense has done over all these years on behalf of the village of Moita, but also of the entire county. The role it has had with young people, transmitting values and encouraging sports”.

João Soeiro, president of União Futebol Clube Moitense was taken by surprise by this distinction by the government and emphasizes that this was the work of people who dedicated themselves body and soul to the club. “This club only exists because there are people who were very stubborn, people who loved it a lot and managed to overcome the difficulties that arose throughout this century. That’s why we managed to get to the moment where we are now”.
