1828 proposes a whisky-paired dinner
The Josper oven is already heating up, the finest Iberian meats are already reserved, and the bell is about to ring in the kitchen of the 1828 restaurant in the cultural quarter of Gaia. This Friday the 13th, luck is reserved for those who attend this dinner harmonised with the prestigious whisky, The Macallan.
While 1828 usually offers tasting menus paired with still wines or young Vintage Port wines, this Friday’s proposal is completely different. In partnership with The Macallan brand, the steakhouse has crafted a special menu that includes whisky as well as international wines.
The evening kicks off with a 12-year-old Sherry Cask The Macallan cocktail. The starter will be Scallop with textures of fennel and lemongrass, lime and pansy, paired with an S.A. Prüm – Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett 2016 from Mosel, Germany. The first course will be Sea Bass from our sea, with roasted cauliflower puree, a hot emulsified butter sauce, and toasted hazelnut. To complement the fish, a wine from Mendoza, Argentina is proposed: Susana Balbo Signature 2021.
The journey then evolves to the meat dish: Slow-cooked Sirloin, truffle gratin potatoes, grilled eggplant on the Josper, confit cherry tomatoes, and creamy jus. This dish is served with the wine Vite Colte – Essenze Barolo Riserva from Piedmont, Italy. Finally, dessert reigns with 70% cocoa Nicaraguan Chocolate Vinte Vinte, served with dried fruit jam with spices, almond textures, salted caramel ice cream, and caramelized pecan nut. This zenith is paired with The Macallan Rare Cask whisky, 2023 Edition, and Taylor’s The Mallet Historical Collection Port Wine, Third Edition.
“It will be an exclusive dinner that aims to be much more than a meal, but rather a truly sensory experience, where every detail has been carefully thought out to provide a unique and memorable night”, describes Priscila Haddad – Head Sommelier at WOW. “The alignment of The Macallan with this event at the 1828 restaurant aims to elevate the dinner to a new level, offering guests a rare opportunity to taste some of the most significant examples of the brand, paired with a complete menu, interspersed with other wines from different renowned origins around the world,” adds Eduardo Martins from The Macallan brand.
The cost per person is 130 euros.
