Mário Lundum, a Portuguese artist recognized, above all, for his 30-year career in fado, will present his most recent album “Imaterial”, released in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the elevation of fado to Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The presentation concert will take place at the Tivoli BBVA, in Lisbon, on April 21, 2023, at 9 pm.
Mário Lundum, who was present at the UNESCO convention in Bali, in 2011, with the Portuguese delegation led by, at the time, the Mayor of Lisbon, Dr. António Costa, and Dr. Ruy Vieira Neri, decided to celebrate the consecration of fado as intangible heritage in this new album, adding to it the values of a life dedicated to Portuguese music and especially to Fado.
With the collaboration of influential names in fado, music, and Portuguese culture, the project matured in the Azores archipelago, where he has resided since 2015, and was recorded, mixed, and produced between the mainland and the island of São Miguel until 2021.
“Imaterial” is a complementary work to Mário Lundum’s first album, “(H)à Fado”, which celebrated the origins and universality of traditional fado with the fusion of Latin and African rhythms.
In this new work, Mário Lundum honors the most traditional form of fado, with three forays into the concept of the first album, with which he honors the great names that inspire his voice: Beatriz da Conceição, Carlos do Carmo, and Amália Rodrigues.
The Fado Museum officially supports the project from the beginning, as a moment of consecration of fado as an intangible heritage by UNESCO.
“Imaterial” is, above all, a celebration of the values that Mário Lundum believes are crucial and increasingly necessary in our world.
The presentation concert for the album “Imaterial” promises to be an exciting and unmissable event for fado fans.
