The Pobre Tolo restaurant, in Amarante, has just reopened with a new concept and presents a renewed menu in the restaurant and bar, in which you can find the iconic flavours of the Region in a modern and sophisticated approach, signed by Chefs Rita and Avelino Ferreira.
From eggs to pasta and risottos, from fish dishes – where there is no shortage of cod with different approaches, grouper, octopus or monkfish – to meat options, ranging from spoon-fed veal to beef hunk, to black pork cheek or tomahauk, there are several combinations with local ingredients and flavours from around the world. In desserts, regional sweets have a prominent place, but there is no shortage of varied proposals, from the most traditional to the most avant-garde, designed to surprise the palate.
A hundred seats are distributed between the gallery, the bar and the terrace – with a menu of snacks to share at any time of the day -, in addition to a list of Portuguese wines carefully selected to represent the various Demarcated Regions, with Special emphasis on Vinhos Verdes from the Amarante sub-region.
With a new, more welcoming and sophisticated decor, the Pobre Tolo restaurant is now part of The President Group, led by Júlio da Silva, an immigrant from Amarante living in Switzerland for over 25 years, where he has owned the Büener restaurant, a reference among restaurants in Bern.
“The Pobre Tolo restaurant has always been a reference in Amarante and it was an old dream to manage this space and transform it to showcase the best of regional cuisine alongside new trends. There is a strong focus on the diversity of wines present, since Portugal is a country very rich in the production of excellent wines and Pobre Tolo is a space that aims to promote and dignify the best that is done in Portugal”, highlights Julio da Silva.
Other investments are planned for the future in Amarante to increase the gastronomic and tourist offer portfolio of a destination that is increasingly sought after by national and foreign tourists.
