Films by Catarina Sousa and Sérgio Tréfaut at the festival “É Tudo Verdade”

The selection of It’s All True 2021 mirrors how even the most nefarious of viruses does not nullify the power of cinema.

In the international competition for feature and medium-length films is ‘Paraíso’, a documentary that Sérgio Tréfaut shot in Brazil, where he was born in 1965 and lived until adolescence.

The film was shot in Rio de Janeiro, in the gardens of the Palácio do Catete, current Museu da República, just before the covid-19 pandemic.

In the competition for short films is ‘Tracing Utopia’, by Portuguese director Catarina de Sousa and North American Nick Tyson.

Premiered in 2020 Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands, ‘Tracing Utopia’ portrays the aspirations of a community of young queers in the Queens neighborhood of New York, United States.

At the É Tudo Verdade festival, based in São Paulo, but dematerialized this year because of the epidemic situation of the covid-19 in the country, homage is also paid to the director Ruy Guerra, born in Mozambique and living in Brazil, who is 90 years old in August.

De Ruy Guerra, who was an activist against Portuguese colonialism in Mozambique, the Brazilian festival chose two works that refer to that African country: ‘Mueda: Memória e Massacre’ (1980) and ‘The compromised: Minutes of a process of decolonization‘ (1984).

The award-winning films of the 26th É Tudo Verdade – International Documentary Festival will be announced on Sunday.
