Film posters on display at Faro Municipal Museum
Film poster in the process of being classified as a national treasure will be on display at the Municipal Museum of Faro
The exhibition “1907-1914: the first golden age of French cinema in the poster collection of the Municipal Museum of Faro”, comprising 33 rare posters, which are in the process of being classified for the National Treasury, will be inaugurated on the next 31st of July, at 6 pm, in this municipal equipment.
This collection, made up of a set of objects of international prestige, with some unique examples from the beginnings of cinema, gave rise to a study that will also be presented on the opening day, making known the exhaustive investigation of Adelaide Ginga, Marta Mestre and Jean-Louis Capitaine, who has the seal of Kaleidoscope, constituting one of the highlights of this event.
This exhibition intends to offer a look at the Gallic cinematographic production, in a period in which it reached world hegemony. It will allow visitors to appreciate the work of some of the greatest illustrators of the time, collected in the main theaters of Lisbon and Porto by the artist and collector Joaquim António Viegas. They comprise an extensive collection with more than 300 copies, including 141 French, Italian, Scandinavian and North American cinema posters, which have been previously exhibited in a larger version at the Cordoaria Nacional and also at the Municipal Museum of Faro.
Curated by the researcher Jorge Carrega, this exhibition is the result of a partnership between the Municipal Museum of Faro and the CIAC-Center for Research in Arts and Communication of the University of Algarve, with the support of the União das Freguesias de Faro, Alliance Française Algarve, FARO 1540 Association and Filmsbytheyear.com.
