A bitter debut for Benfica in the Champions
Werner was the figure of the game as he scored both goals in the German triumph. Benfica’s side, Bruno Lage made a small revolution in eleven and not everything went well.
Benfica did not have the desired debut in the Champions League. The reds received RB Leipzig and did not avoid a 1-2 defeat in the first round of Group G of Champions. A defeat that puts the Eagles’ formation in the last place of the group for the moment, while the Germans lead in the tie between Lyon and Zenit (1-1).
In the first part of great balance, the game was solved in the second half. Werner was lethal and scored two goals in 10 minutes, but Leipzig can also thank Gulácsi. The goalkeeper of the German side did not make a transcendental display, especially because Benfica’s offensive game was not stifling, but they always denied the goal of Bruno Lage’s team with great certainty.
