Accor supports women victims of violence in Portugal
The hotel group made a donation to the Association of Women Against Violence (AMCV), which reverts to rehabilitation works on one of the association’s shelters, intended for women victims of domestic violence and their children.
This support forms part of the Accor Group’s commitment to the fight against violence against women and gender inequality.
The Accor Group announced a donation to the Association of Women Against Violence (AMCV), in Portugal, the amount of which will be used to renovate one of the association’s temporary shelters.
This €20,000 support was made possible thanks to the Accor Group’s Heartists Fund, launched during the pandemic to support the most vulnerable communities, and follows the hotel group’s commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s rights. women.
In this way, Accor decided to help a Portuguese NGO that was mainly dedicated to combating violence and discrimination against women, with AMCV being the chosen association.
With almost 30 years of history, AMCV is an organization that supports women, young people and children in situations of domestic, physical, psychological and sexual violence and provides temporary security shelter for victims in life-threatening situations.
Currently, the association welcomes 32 survivors in its shelters, women and children from all over the country. The Accor Group’s support is intended for one of the AMCV shelters, a space that needed some renovations.
In total, the donation reverts to the requalification of the roof, door and windows, the vinyl floor, the covered walkway, painting and to the acquisition of various equipment for the space intended for the children of the women welcomed by the AMCV.
“AMCV thanks the Accor Group for this donation, which significantly improved a space dedicated and adapted to children, making their experience in the shelter more comfortable and humane”, says Margarida Medina Martins, Vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Association of Women Against Violence.
For Rebeca Ávila, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility Accor Europa do Sul, this initiative reflects the continuous action of the hotel group in establishing internal policies and partnerships with other entities to fight for a fairer, more egalitarian and safer society for all people.
“As a Group, we are very proud to be able to help associations such as AMCV, which defend and protect women and children who are victims of violence. This is just one of the actions undertaken by Accor in this regard, demonstrating our coherence with regard to the defence of gender equality and human rights. We will remain strong in this fight,” she explained.
This year, in addition to the donation to the Portuguese association, the Accor Group will also mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by organizing a round table on “Gender cyber-violence and emotional self-management”, at the Institut Français de Madrid, where new forms of gender violence on social media were discussed.
In Spain, it will also organize two projects, one for mentoring and the other for training, designed exclusively to help women victims of violence in their job search. To this end, it had the collaboration of the Spanish-French association Mujeres Avenir, as well as the Integra and Adecco foundations.
