This Friday, February 16th, Alek Rein releases “Everything’s Changing”: 1st single from the new album Golden Montana in a co-edition by ZDB and Lay Down Recordings.
The Portuguese-American composer and musician left great expectations among fans and critics of psychedelic indie folk-rock after the success of his first full-length Mirror Lane, considered by many to be one of the best albums of 2016.
But nothing good should be rushed, and Alexandre Rendeiro knows this well. The creator of Alek Rein, whose universe rich in fantasy and symbolism extends far beyond the songs, matured his second album for 8 years and is now ready to present Golden Montana, an album produced and mixed by Filipe Sambado, due out in April 2024.
The first single has now been revealed — “Everything’s Changing” sinks us into a captivating psychedelic folk-rock mix that recalls the nostalgic vibe of the 70s. The track unfolds with a mesmerizing guitar melody, complemented by the drum beat almost reminiscent of a war cry or a folk brass band.
The lyrics evoke the contemplation of mortality and debate the essence of temporal flow. The guitars and vocals sound as granular and noisy as Alek Rein’s mind. When he starts to sing “…Baby, I’ll change”, that’s when his idea of death encourages him to live life differently.
About Alek Rein:
«And I’m wondering who could be writing this song», ponders Syd Barrett in «Jugband Blues», his last composition as a member of Pink Floyd. This was the genetic delirium that snatched the persona of Alek Rein from Alexandre Rendeiro: where did this desire to escape through music come from, or rather, where did his imagination flee to when he sat down to compose? Since his debut EP Gemini (2010), through the full-length Mirror Lane (2016), reaching the current Golden Montana (2024), Alek Rein’s universe has been slowly but densely populated with characters, creatures and fantasies in good fashion. of Anglo-Saxon psych folk, spreading through influences such as The Kinks, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Blue Cheer, The Velvet Underground, among others. Over the years, in addition to its proximity to the legendary Galeria Zé dos Bois, it has counted on the friendship and creative stimulation of producer Filipe Sambado and collaborated, in the studio and at concerts across the country, with musicians such as Humberto Dias, Martim Seabra, Alexandre Fernandes, Luís Barros, Guilherme Canhão, Marco Franco, among others.
