Axians helps to avoid the impact of isolation of the elderly during the pandemic
Axians Portugal is developing a pilot monitoring project using IOT in 10 homes for several elderly people, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML). The purpose is to reduce the impact of social exclusion caused by the pandemic among the elderly and their families, or support centers.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his is an IOT-based pilot sensing project that allows daily monitoring of the well-being of these elderly people. Through sensors placed in their homes, during an eight-week trial period, it is possible for SCML to identify patterns of need and establish a network of health resources, which will help users in an emergency. Support in taking effective proactive actions coupled with efficiency gains from a smarter network are the main attributes of this innovative solution.
“This is a project that we are very proud of, and with a major institution such as Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, which allows us to support the elderly in this very difficult time that we are going through, contributing to avoid the impact of their isolation, namely in what your health care. Although this is still a pilot project with innovative technology in a challenging context, it moves us the responsibility of giving back to a whole generation the amount it has already given us. In addition, the impact of this project is even greater, knowing that the pandemic has further aggravated the isolation and difficulties in assisting a good part of this age group. The way in which a society cares for its elderly defines its level of development well. ” says Pedro Faustino, Managing Director at Axians Portugal.
Sérgio Cintra, Executive Director of Social Action and the Department of Entrepreneurship and Social Economy at SCML, says: “Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa believes in the role of innovation and collaboration. Through the Department of Entrepreneurship and Social Economy, in projects such as Casa do Impacto, and in particularly challenging phases such as the one we are facing today, we have been redoubling and joining efforts, working even harder on the social responses that have contributed so much to make our society more just and inclusive. It is with great enthusiasm that we see this pilot moving forward, in partnership with Axians Portugal, and with the hope that it will become a digital tool that will contribute in the future to the management of the problem of longevity and aging in the City of Lisbon. This initiative, and faced with a scenario like today, can help us to maximize our response capacity, shorten distances and promote greater inclusion of this population. Innovation is not enough for tomorrow, it is necessary to respond to today’s problems – and that is what we are betting on. ”
It should be remembered that this pilot project originated from SCML’s participation in the SOL Housing Program, promoted by Beta-i, which aimed to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Lisbon through the validation and integration of innovative solutions in a real context, such as the more effective response in situations of vulnerability aggravated by their social isolation.
