Costa do Sol conquers the Mozambique Cup

Costa do Sol won today the 20th edition of the Mozambique Cup in football, having won in the final in Maputo Ferroviário da Beira 4-2 in the shoot-out for penalties.

The ‘canarinha’ team, coached by Portuguese coach Horácio Gonçalves, won the final on penalties after the two teams finished tied for a goal at the end of the 90-minute regulation and extra time.

With today’s victory at the Estádio da Machava, Costa do Sol won their 13th trophy in the Mozambique Cup since the start of the competition in 1978.

Ferroviário da Beira, guided by Portuguese coach Rogério Gonçalves, won the competition three times.

At the end of the match, Beira’s ‘locomotives’ refused to receive the medals reserved for the runner-up finisher, leaving the pitch.

The attitude of the ‘Beirense’ team was caused by the decision of the referee to cancel a goal that the players and the associative mass of Ferroviário considered legal, vehemently contesting the action taken by the referee team.
