Cultural program dedicated to fado and Cante Alentejano in Beja
The program started today with the inauguration of the collective photography exhibition ‘Beja – Terra Sonora’, which marks the classification of fado and cante alentejano as Cultural and Immaterial Heritage of Humanity.
The exhibition, which runs until January 15, at the UNESCO Center in Beja, brings together works by photographers Ricardo Zambujo, Susana Teixeira, Miguel Valente, Ana Espinho, and José Espinho.
‘Beja – Terra Sonora‘ resulted from the challenge launched by the municipality to photographers to portray the “ambassadors” of fado and sing in the municipality of Beja and involved 19 choral groups from Alentejo and 20 artists, including fadistas, singers and musicians.
The ‘Musicalidades‘ gathering will bring together Portuguese musician and composer Rão Kyao and priest, conductor and composer António Cartageno and will take place on Sunday, starting at 3 pm, at the UNESCO Center in Beja.
Then, on the 13th of this month, starting at 3:00 pm, in the Municipal Library of Beja, the literary session ‘Os Poetas de Amália Rodrigues’, in charge of reading mediator Elsa Ligeiro.
In the session, in the year that marks the centenary of the birth of Amália Rodrigues, Elsa Ligeiro will release dozens of poets from the “fado diva“, such as the Portuguese Luís de Camões, Alexandre O’Neill, José Régio, David Mourão-Ferreira , Alberto Janes and the Brazilian Cruz e Sousa.
The program will also include this month the concerts of Camané and Mário Laginha, on the 13th, and the group Cantadores de Beringel with the fado singer Marco Rodrigues, on the 27th, and the show ‘Raízes: Fado e Flamenco’, on the 28th, always from 8 pm, at Teatro Municipal Pax Julia.
‘Raízes: Fado e Flamenco’ will bring together fadista Diamantina, flamenco singer Joaquín Moreno, five musicians and two dancers.
The program will end with a concert by tenor Carlos Guilherme and fado singer Teresa Tapadas, on December 17th, at Teatro Municipal Pax Julia, starting at 8:00 pm.
