Djokovic wins Wimbledon tournament for the 6th time

Serbian Novak Djokovic, 34 years old, number one in the ATP ranking, this Sunday won the Wimbledon tournament for the sixth time in his career, joining this triumph to those he had achieved on the London turf in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019.

In the decisive game, Nole overcame Italian Matteo Berrettini, 9th in the world (goes up to 8th) who made his debut in Grand Slam finals. In the first partial, Djokovic came to lead by 5-2 but allowed the transalpine to recover, who would eventually close the set no tie-break with 7-4 in favor. Then, the Serb regained focus and the best level to reach the title, closing the next three sets by 6-4, 6-4 and 6-3, after 3h27m of game.

Djokovic, 34, will share with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal the record of 20 majors  titles and will, in 2021, look for the Golden Slam: winning the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the United States Open in the same year, something that never happened in the Open era and, in men’s tennis (Steffi Graff achieved the feat in the women’s side), it was achieved for the last time by Rod Laver, in 1969. Before, Djokovic will still have the opportunity to, for the first time, win the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
