Double the elegance and balance: Kopke and Burmester announce the launch of Vintage Quinta de São Luiz and Quinta do Arnozelo

The Sogevinus group has just announced the launch of two Single Quinta Vintages – the Kopke Quinta de São Luiz 2021 and the Burmester Quinta do Arnozelo 2021. which shows that Burmester has produced this category since 1788 and Kopke since 1820.

This year, 2021, wines are born that excel in elegance, rather than greater structure, and both are protagonists of a great balance. Starting with the Vintage 2021 Kopke Quinta de São Luiz, with a dark hue and violet nuances. If on the nose, notes of spice, ripe red fruit, balsamic, and a resinous note stand out, in the mouth the intense tannins are notorious, intertwining perfectly with notes of citric fruit surrounded by refreshing acidity. After tasting it, the dense and long finish remains in my memory. It is above all the result of the silent wisdom of more than 35 different varieties of the old vines that originate it.

The 2021 Vintage Burmester Quinta do Arnozelo, designed from grape varieties often found in Douro lands, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Alicante Bouschet, is also intense in color, with a floral and fruity DNA. It is distinguished by the olfactory notes of rock rose, orange blossom, and black fruit, including black plum and cassis, and stands out for its elegance and silky character, but also for the sophisticated tannins that coexist with the flavors of cocoa and sweet fruit. With balanced acidity, it is vintage with a great sense of presence.

“The year that gave rise to the two vintages was marked by a cold winter and heavy rainfall during the month of February, which was followed by a typically mild spring, punctuated by rains in the month of April, which allowed for the replacement of water in the ground”, explains Carlos Alves, Director of Enology at Sogevinus. The anticipation of the harvest continues, was due to the hot and dry summer, although the rains at the beginning of September, together with mild temperatures, have slowed down the pace of grape maturation.

The favorable climatic conditions were joined by human will, which resulted in the construction of two emblematic wines from birth, capable of timeless elegance and limited editions (12,133 bottles, in the case of Kopke, and 8,830 with the Burmester seal). Vintages from these two historic houses will be available in the last quarter of 2023.
