Exhibition “Arquivo Aberto” at Cooperativa Árvore
Documentary Collection – 1963/2023 from August 5th to 26th
Cooperativa Árvore opens on August 5th at 5 pm Open Archive Exhibition, as part of its Documental Collection since 1963, the year this cultural institution in Porto was created. The Exhibition is part of the commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the Tree.
It is an admittedly unfinished exhibition, an archive under construction, and the starting point for the organization of a documentary collection, which counts the sixty years of this institution of art, culture, resistance, and freedom – the Árvore, a house in the city of Porto.
According to those responsible for the Exhibition, “We came across a wide variety of documents: minutes, account reports, handwritten notes, miscellaneous correspondence, registration forms, photographs, many photographs, leaflets, invitations, newspaper clippings, diplomas, decorations, project sketches, and drawings. We found records of exhibitions, book launches, music shows, poetry, theatre, cinema, photography, performances, and debates. We revisited the workshops with their surprising collection and work by the many artists and trainers who passed through there.
We discover people, moments, intentions, and celebrations. And there were so many who passed through here! Plastic artists, architects, writers, designers, poets, musicians, actors, singers, politicians… and so many others who worked and work here, involved in this grandiose project. So much to tell about the works of art, drawings, paintings, sculptures, multiples, engravings, serigraphs, lithographs, and ceramic pieces, all with history in this house.
We built a story, literally “we went through the papers”. We crossed people and events. We created a narrative, the beginning of something to tell, the identity and history of the cooperative throughout its sixty years (1963-2023) and all its immense artistic heritage.”
This exhibition is the beginning of the organization of a documentary collection that, in the future, will be available for consultation.
