The Youth Foundation has just opened applications for the National Contest of Young Scientists. The initiative, promoted for over 30 years, aims to reward the best science, technology, research, and innovation projects, developed in an academic context (at school or university).
Applications are open until April 21, 2023, through the platform available here.
The National Young Scientists Contest is aimed at young people, aged between 15 and 20, attending basic, secondary, and professional education, or in the 1st year of higher education (1st cycle, Bachelor’s or Integrated Master’s). They can participate individually or in groups (up to three elements), with projects in the areas of Biology (Bioeconomics, Genetics, Microbiology, Ecology, Plant Biology, Marine Biology, Zoology, Veterinary Sciences), Earth and Environmental Sciences (Geology, Paleontology, Pollution and Waste, Air and Water, Climate Change, Natural Resources and Sustainability, Agriculture), Health Sciences, Social and Economic Sciences (Economics and Management, Educational Sciences, Sociology), Engineering and Technologies (Mechanical Engineering, Electrotechnical Engineering, Computer Science), Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry.
At “game” are more than 4,000 euros in monetary prizes and participation in the main exhibitions and science fairs around the world, namely Brazil, the United States of America, Italy, and Luxembourg, among others. The winners have registration, accommodation, and meals provided by the Youth Foundation.
The projects in the competition can also be selected to integrate the National Science Exhibition, organized by the Youth Foundation. The event takes place on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of June, at the Alfândega Congress Center in Porto and annually attracts hundreds of visitors from all over the country. The National Contest for Young Scientists also foresees special prizes and honorable mentions, to be classified by the jury.

The National Contest of Young Scientists 2023 has the support of Ciência Viva, Porto City Council, Porto Editora, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and Lipor.
