Herdade das Servas wins Gold duo at Challenge International du Vin
Herdade das Servas raises “double of Gold” in the Challenge International du Vin 2019
Produced by the brothers Luis and Carlos Serrano Mira in Alentejo, the ‘Herdade das Servas Reserva Branco 2017’ and the ‘Herdade das Servas Touriga Nacional red 2015’ – both launched at the end of the year – have just won ‘Gold Medal’ in 43. The second edition of the Challenge International du Vin, the oldest and largest competition of the international specialty, organized in France. The duo is made from Portuguese grape varieties harvested and vinified on the wine estate of the same name, located just a few kilometers from the city of Estremoz.
Arinto (50%), Verdelho (25%) and Alvarinho (25%) were the grapes hand-picked in the 2017 harvest of ‘Herdade das Servas Reserva Branco’. After destemming and crushing, the grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press, followed by static decantation for 48 hours and fermentation in French oak barrels. The nine-month stage also took place in French oak barrels, this time with regular batonnage. After bottling, he rested for six months in the basement. Result: a clear, straw-colored wine with aromas of peach, lime, lemon and tangerine and toasted notes of the barrel. In the mouth, it imparts freshness, greasiness, and structure; presents citrus and toasted notes of the barrel, and the end is persistent.
