“Jorge Baptista da Silva sings Carlos Baleia”

There is, on the part of the author of the lyrics, Carlos Baleia, some preference for the combination of themes that can give rise to complete discographic editions.

“Jorge Baptista da Silva sings Carlos Baleia” followed this line of exclusivity in the authorship of the lyrics that were handed over to different composers who, in different styles and musical aptitudes, best served the intended purpose.

This objective embodied a preconceived diversity, which appealed to the interest of different types of listeners and where quality was the goal. And, for that reason, the disc contains genuine traditional fados, fados with a chorus and ballads, themes with the sentimentality typical of the fado expression, fun and lighthearted themes, themes where Lisbon is the motto and inspiration, and one or two more serious themes that reflect thoughts about who we are in Life.

To this end, it relied on the invaluable cooperation of talented composers, namely Nuno Nazareth Fernandes, Daniel Gouveia, João Machado, Fernando Silva, Hugo Afonso, and Marco Oliveira, who gave the disc’s fifteen themes an adequate and, perhaps brilliant, appreciation of the words written in advance. And so we arrived at the important complementary elements without which the record would not exist: Performer, Musicians, and Studio. As for the interpreter, it was easy.

Carlos Baleia met with Jorge Baptista da Silva and both felt that they would feel good about this project: because they are both demanding, meticulous, and mutually liking what each one had to give. With the musicians, this dose of reciprocity and admiration was repeated. Hugo Afonso on Portuguese guitar and Nelson Aleixo as viola, to which Fernando Silva and Carlos Macieira joined, constituting a truly remarkable court of musicians, as the disc testifies.
