Kaspersky joins Geek’alm and Farfetch to discuss women’s opportunities in technology

Women in Tech Portugal

“If we are afraid and take no chances, we will never transform this world of men into an equal world”

Ana Carolina Cardoso, Software Engineer at Farfetch.

After the disclosure of the Women in Tech study worldwide, Kaspersky is now launching the challenge in Portugal, with a campaign that aims to debate the opportunities and challenges of women in the technological world. The first conversation, launched today, joins tech Youtuber Geek’alm Ana Carolina Cardoso, Software Engineer at tech giant Farfetch, in Portugal.

The first episode of the Women in Tech @ Kaspersky Portugal campaign was launched on YouTube today and tells the story of Ana Carolina Cardoso, Software Engineer at Farfetch, the world’s leading online luxury fashion platform. Ana Carolina has a degree in Health Informatics from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, with about 10 years of experience in the area. At Farfetch since 2016, she considers herself truly passionate about technology and all its technical aspects.

Over the course of about 30 minutes, Ana Carolina Cardoso now shares her vision in relation to the technological world and the themes of gender equality, where she recognized the growing investment of companies in promoting egalitarian measures and highlighted the lack of female professionals in the IT sector.

During the conversation, the Farfetch Software Engineer also discusses her experience and career path until reaching her current position, as well as analyzing issues around gender equality, corporate equity policies, career and attraction and retention of more women in the sector. And she leaves the advice: “If that’s what you really want to do, don’t be afraid. This is a world still dominated by men, and to turn this around, we need more women. Don’t be afraid to take risks and to be who you are, to be confronted or to respond. If we are afraid and take no chances, we will never transform this world of men into an equal world.

The female presence in technology has been growing over the years, making this universe less and less associated with men, but there is still a lot of room to evolve. Women remain a minority in the tech world and this trend needs to continue to be reversed.

Women in Tech @ Kaspersky Portugal is the new campaign from Kaspersky, which gives a voice to the many Portuguese women working in the IT sector and whose career could inspire more women to join the world of technology. This campaign, broadcast on Youtube and consisting of three episodes, promotes informal conversations with exclusive guests from large companies in Portugal, who share their experiences, opportunities and challenges in accessing the profession and in the evolution of their career. This set of interviews seeks to demystify some prejudices associated with the female profession and encourage young people to enter the world of technology.
