Lisboa ao Palco started with David Fonseca and Joana Espadinha on friday
The program was designed by guitarist Diogo Clemente for an audience limited to 600 seats.
[dropcap]F[/dropcap]rom the 11th of September to the 4th of October, Quinta da Alfarrobeira, in São Domingos de Benfica, Lisbon, hosts 10 nights of Portuguese music, bringing together renowned and rising names of the national music industry for 20 shows. The enclosure will have a capacity reserved for about 600 seats complying with all the rules of social distance, hygiene, and safety set by the General Directorate of Health. Tickets are on sale for a single price of 15€.
Lisboa ao Palco started last Friday with the concerts of Joana Espadinha, at 8:45 pm, and David Fonseca, at 9:45 pm.
Joana Espadinha is a strong voice in the new national pop, she was known for her participation in the 2018 edition of Festival da Canção and has two studio albums edited. “O Material Tem Sempre Razão” gives its name to Joana Espadinha’s latest album, produced by Benjamim, and includes the singles “Leva-me a Dançar” and “Pensa Bem“.
During the concert, we could hear themes like “Vai Ser Melhor“, which the artist wrote thinking about the victims of domestic violence, “Sem Emenda“, “Zero a Zero“, music that she sang at the Festival da Canção in 2018, and “Qualquer Coisa”, with her on stage were Margarida Campelo on the keyboards, Francisco Brito on the bass, João Pirmino on the guitar, and Nuno Safara on the drums.

At 9:45 pm it was David Fonseca‘s turn to take the stage with “I’m Good“, “Anyone Can Do It“, “Lazy“, “Slow Karma” and “Resist“, with the special guest Alice Wonder, from Spain. In a concert full of technology and creativity, the singer managed to fill the audience with energy who, even seated, could not resist shaking their heads.
Born in Leiria, David Fonseca made himself known in music through “Silence 4“, which debuted in 1998 with the album “Silence becomes it”.
David Fonseca has done a lot of creative work with other authors, integrating the collective Humanos, composing for Sérgio Godinho, participating in a tribute show to Leonard Cohen, in an album paying tribute to David Bowie, and, in 2012, edited a photo book “Right here, right now”.
During the quarantine, the artist says that “almost all the most difficult moments” of his life “had a creative response to the level, transforming them into something more positive, easier to carry”. The song “You feel like home” was “mixed and mastered from a distance” and “ended up being the target of a ‘lyric video’ from a board game, a task of days that made it worth the widespread mess of a of the divisions of his house”.

The cycle of concerts Lisboa ao Palco resumes the next week with Moonspell and Murals on the 20th, followed by HMB and Matay on the 25th, Paulo Flores with Prodigio and Miroca Paris on the 26th, and Bárbara Tinoco and Tainá on the 27th.
Entering the month of October, Diogo Piçarra and Irma will perform on the 2nd, Amor Electro and Viva o Samba will take the stage on the 3rd, and to close the concert cycle we have Pedro Abrunhosa and Elisa Rodrigues on the 4th of October.
Quinta da Alfarrobeira is an emblematic place. When João Frederico Ludovice designed, built, and inhabited this farm, from 1748 onwards, he would never have imagined that, about three centuries later, it would become a space that aims to bring together and bring citizens closer to local power, giving form political, social and cultural intervention that is much more direct and closer to people: here you can attend classes at the São Domingos Academy or attend cultural events, such as Lisboa ao Palco, which marks the musical rental in Lisbon, within the normality possible in this period of pandemic, while everyone, artists and public, await the day when the shows will return to full function.
The cycle is an initiative of CM Lisboa and EGEAC, with the support of the São Domingos de Benfica Parish Council, produced by Sons em Trânsito and Tejo Music Lab, with the aim of signaling this return to the stage as well as celebrating the richness and diversity of Portuguese music. Diogo Clemente was in charge of programming.
