The Brazilian singer, songwriter, and producer, who became a viral phenomenon with his style that blends arrocha and brega with simple, direct lyrics, opened Henrique & Juliano’s show in Lisbon.

After a performance in Porto, it was Grelo’s turn, the stage name of Gabriel Ângelo Furtado de Oliveira, a Brazilian artist from Anápolis, Goiás, to take the stage at Portugal’s largest venue, the Meo Arena, which was packed with fans for a huge party.

Grelo’s popularity exploded on streaming platforms in 2024, initially through unusual versions of well-known songs, such as his recording of “Vida Loka – Parte 1” (originally by Racionais MCs) with a serenade rhythm.

His success was fueled by the support of the country music duo Henrique & Juliano, for whom Grelo had already written songs. The hit “Só Fé” quickly became one of the most played songs in Brazil, cementing his fame as a singer.

Always very friendly, he interacts with the audience, who dance and sing with him from start to finish, inviting fans onto the stage, and winning their hearts from the first chord. His stage name, “Grelo,” is actually a combination of the nicknames his friends gave him because of his thinness: grilo” (cricket“) and magrelo” (skinny.”)

Despite his recent success as a singer, Grelo, who signs his compositions as De Ângelo, is a highly respected composer in the Brazilian sertanejo music industry. He has over 500 registered compositions and is the author of hits recorded by some of the biggest names in Brazilian music, such as “Erro Gostoso” (Simone Mendes), “Traumatizei” (Henrique & Juliano), “Esqueça-me Se For Capaz” (Marília Mendonça and Maiara & Maraísa), and “Quarta Cadeira” (Matheus and Kauan).

His debut album, É o Grelo (2024), was a milestone in his transition from a “behind-the-scenes” composer to a top-tier artist in the arrocha and seresta music scene.
