Illustrated books of São João de Braga offered to schools of the county
The São João de Braga Festival Association and the Braga City Council offer illustrated books from São João de Braga to all schools in the municipality.
“São João Hoje – Cancioneiro Sanjoanino Bracarense” (2022), illustrated by André Eiras, “Tradições do São João de Braga” (2023), illustrated by Soraia Oliveira, and “Trajar no São João de Braga” (2024), illustrated by Zita Pinto, will be available in the libraries of the basic schools of the municipality.
The action was marked on the afternoon of June 26, at EB1 São João do Souto, during the last creative workshop of São João de Braga, guided by Zita Pinto. Firmino Marques, President of the São João de Braga Festival Association, and Carla Sepúlveda, Councillor of Education of the Braga City Council, attended the session and spoke about the initiative.
“It is important to bring to schools our tradition and culture so that children continue this legacy and be the protagonists of the parties of tomorrow,” said Carla Sepúlveda. Firmino Marques added that “these traditions that we live today have come to us through the efforts of our grandparents and our parents”, and we must now “share them so that they also belong to future generations”.
It is important to highlight that these books were the motto for the realization of three creative workshops focusing on different particularities of the Sanjoaninas bracarenses. These sessions went through several classes of three basic schools of the county and also took place in the Museum of Costume Dr Gonçalo Sampaio, inserted in the programming of the parties, with families as the target audience. This initiative aimed to present the books to children, reinforcing the approach of the youngest to São João de Braga and its traditions. There were about 265 participants.
