Night celebrating the best national surfing
the highlight was the crowning of the 2023 champions

– Frederico Morais wins Personality of the Year award
The 14th edition of the Portugal Surf Awards last Friday awarded the best national surfers, in a gala night that served to crown the national champions and winners of the MEO Surf 2023 League, Joaquim Chaves and Francisca Veselko.
The ceremony, which took place in Ericeira, also distinguished other individuals and entities that stood out throughout the season, which is now coming to an end.
The two main stars of the night were Joaquim Chaves and Francisca Veselko who received the trophies for the titles won. This was the first time that Joaquim became the Open national champion, while Veselko won his second title, after his debut in 2021. In addition to the title, the current junior world champion also took home the women’s Allianz Triple Crown and the best female wave of the year, while national runner-up Guilherme Ribeiro was the author of the best wave of the year in the male category.
Among the various categories that distinguished the best of the year, a highlight was the election of Peniche as the best stage for the third consecutive year, in an award that was decided by a vote of the surfers themselves. The same surfers elected Guilherme Ribeiro and Gabriela Dinis as winners of the Surfers’ Surfer trophy.
Guilherme Ribeiro and Francisca Veselko were in the spotlight tonight, taking home the most trophies. The Costa de Caparica surfer won the Allianz Triple Crown, Best Wave and Surfer’s Surfer Award. Veselko, in addition to the national champion trophy and winner of the MEO Surf League, was also distinguished with the Allianz Triple Crown and Best Women’s Wave award.
Joaquim Chaves took home two awards, national champion and winner of the MEO Surf League and Biggest Evolution of the Year, after voting by the media partners of the MEO Surf League.
Mention also goes to the distinction of Club of the Year, which was won by CRCQL Lombos Praia, a decision inherent to the performance of its members.
The ANS Share award was given to Onda Pura while the Career Award was won by ONFIRE Surf Mag.
Frederico Morais, who secured requalification for the World Surf League Championship Tour last October, took home the Personality of the Year award.
